9783775762786
Mauro Staccioli. Overcoming Barriers
With the monograph "Mauro Staccioli. Overcoming Barriers," the life's work of one of the most significant pioneers of site-specific sculpture is comprehensively re-evaluated. The trilingual volume (English, French, Italian) accompanies the exhibition scheduled for 2027 at the Fondation CAB in Brussels and Saint-Paul de Vence, curated by Roberto Lacarbonara. Based on extensive, partly unpublished materials from the Staccioli Archive, authors such as Caterina Martinelli, Bruno Corà, Marica Antonucci, Duccio Nobili, and Giuliano Sergio trace Staccioli's path: from the brutalist concrete barriers of the 1970s, which provoked urban space as a sign of political resistance, to the flowing, open Corten sculptures of his late work. The contributions examine Staccioli's artistic practice in the context of Arte Povera and his integration into the European art landscape, illustrating his vision of a sculpture that overcomes social and physical barriers.

The project was made possible with the support of the Italian Cultural Program (2025).

Mauro Staccioli (1937–2018), born in Volterra, shaped contemporary sculpture through his radical "interventions" in public space. His work is a constant search for the balance between individual freedom, political activism, and a "golden" harmony with architecture and nature.
