Less common is the fact that artists have developed projects using postcards that reveal or have revealed a considered stance on the art context. This book focuses on artistic postcard projects since the beginning of the 1960s, particularly by On Kawara, Lawrence Weiner, Susan Hiller, Marcel Broodthaers, Michael Asher, and Mathilde ter Heijne. In each of these projects, one can observe the self-institutionalization of an artistic practice and, at the same time, an impetus to consider this in conjunction with an emblemization of contemporaneity.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eGregor Stemmrich studied art, philosophy, and art history. After a professorship at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts (from 1999), he accepted an appointment at Freie Universität Berlin in 2007 and has been teaching at New York University Abu Dhabi since 2015. He has published numerous works on modern and contemporary art.
