BOOK PRESENTATION WARBURG MODELS

As part of our new publication Warburg Models. Buildings as Bilderfahrzeuge by Tim Anstey and Mari Lending, we are delighted to invite you to a special event in London. In addition to the first presentation of the book in the studio of artist Judith Clark, the architectural models can be viewed there on this day before their later transfer to the Warburg Models exhibition at the Architectural Association.

Aby Warburg's exploration of culture was deeply intertwined with his examination of architecture and interiors, spanning intellectual, visceral, historical, and contemporary dimensions. Alongside delving into how architecture had influenced cultural orientation in the past, Warburg and his followers actively engaged in commissioning architectural projects from 1923 to 1958. This period saw the Warburg Library transitioning through various locations in Hamburg and London, with each move prompting the initiation of designs for buildings, interiors, and exhibitions. These projects served as opportunities to articulate the connections between architecture, intellectual order, and memory.

The book Warburg Models: Buildings as Bilderfahrzeuge unveils Warburg's association with architecture, highlighting six specific building endeavors. Complemented by an exhibition of archive material and intricate architectural models created by students at the Oslo School of Architecture and Design, the publication, featuring contributions from Dag Erik Elgin, Uwe Fleckner, Elizabeth Sears, Bill Sherman, and Claudia Wedepohl, demonstrates how architectural repetition, reinscription, and movement played a pivotal role in shaping this influential research institution.
