New insights into an extraordinary collection
The Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Humlebæk, Denmark, is one of the most popular museums in Europe. It owns an outstanding collection of 20th- and 21st-century art. Fortyfive of these top works by about thirty artists—paintings, prints, drawings, and photography—are on display at the Museum Franz Gertsch in Switzerland from fall 2024. The selection focuses on works and art movements that can be linked to the life and work of the Swiss painter and graphic artist Franz Gertsch (1930–2022). These include international Pop Art and the American trends of Color Field and Hard-Edge Painting. In addition, individual works of contemporary and Scandinavian art from the Louisiana collection extend the dialog between the museums and artistic generations into the present.

Anna Wesle (*1980) studied art history and modern English literature in Tübingen, Oxford and Vienna, and cultural management in Basel. She has worked at the Museum Franz Gertsch in Burgdorf since 2008, since 2010 as curator, and has organized numerous exhibitions on Gertsch and 20th and 21st century art.
