ART AS A LANGUAGE OF HOPE – OUR FALL PROGRAM 2026
In a world full of conflict, gallery owner Gisela Capitain recently stated:
"Isn't art the most positive way to look at the world – inspiring, unsettling, questioning, calming? It doesn't destroy."
Art opens up a special view of the world. It inspires, unsettles, fascinates, and questions – thereby creating a space for reflection that warlike or political reality often does not offer.
Books also employ this universal language of art. They help us to view the world positively, to convey history, and to tell stories. Our Fall Program 2026 once again impressively demonstrates this.
Program Highlights
A special highlight is the magnificent volume on Indian mural painting – a global collaborative project published simultaneously in India, France, and Belgium. For the first time, it offers deep insight into the myths of Hinduism and their visual expressions.
This journey through fascinating visual worlds continues in late summer with a monograph by the exceptional Italian artist Isabella Ducrot.
We set classical accents with Vilhelm Hammershøi, the "Vermeer of the North," and the work of Franz Marc.
Art for the Youngest
Our heartfelt thanks go to the enthusiasm with which our new program area, the artistic children's book at Hatje Cantz, has been received. Here, too, it is evident how illustrations and texts can encourage and instill confidence.
An Invitation to a Change of Perspective
Thus, we see our Fall Program 2026 as an invitation to better understand the world through the language of images and to make conflicts solvable.
With warm regards from the sea of books,
Nicola von Velsen and the Hatje Cantz Team
