| Figurative and attractive—images of women in contemporary painting
The unifying theme underlying the collection of Maria Lucia and Ingo Klöcker is the portraiture of women. Taking inspiration from Robert Schumann’s song cycle Frauen—Liebe und Leben, which is in turn based on the poems of Adelbert von Chamisso, the book presents the collection in a kind of romantic Liederkreis in nine segments, progressing through the phases of a woman’s life from childhood to death and in a dialogue with literature from antiquity to the twenty-first century.Wolfgang Mattheuer, Willi Sitte, and Werner Tübke represent the older generation of Leipzig-based painters in the collection. They are accompanied by their students Ulrich Hachulla, Erich Kissing, Arno Rink, Werner Stötzer, and Michael Triegel. The collection also includes works by such internationally renowned artists as Eric Fischl, Franz Gertsch, Alberto Giacometti, Alex Katz, Eugène Leroy, Sigmar Polke, Paula Rego, Gerhard Richter, Thomas Schütte, Kiki Smith, and Nancy Spero as well as an astounding variety of other artists from around the world. Exhibition schedule: LehmbruckMuseum, Duisburg, April 21–September 8, 2013
