With the Engrams, the Swiss Institute for Art Research (SIK-ISEA) is presenting a new series. It is dedicated to important figures in art history in Switzerland and documents their work in source texts and commentaries. The first volume introduces Gotthard Jedlicka (1899–1965), the longtime professor of art history at the University of Zurich, who wrote highly acclaimed monographs on Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Pieter Bruegel, Edouard Manet, and Max Gubler. Not least thanks to his extensive publishing activities in the Swiss and foreign daily press as well as in specialist journals, Jedlicka was one of the most influential figures in Swiss art history from the end of the 1920s onward.

The Swiss Institute for Art Research (SIK-ISEA) is a center for art research and art technology with locations in Zurich, Lausanne, and Lugano. Its activities focus on research, documentation, knowledge transfer, and services in the field of fine art.
