In 1995, Barnett Newman, one of the most important artists of Abstract Expressionism and of 20th century art in general, would have been 90 years old. In celebration of this anniversary, this volume was published with a complete, thoroughly illustrated index of his graphic prints which were created between 1961 and 1969. His lithographs, etchings, aquatints and the yet unpublished serigraphs serve as an introduction to the vocabulary of his art: pure colors, austere compositions and gestural in variation. From the expressive black and white lithographs of 1961 to the rigidly composed symmetric etchings of 1969, Newman's artistic language is apparent and more intimately accessible in his graphic works than in his paintings. In a detailed essay, Gabriele Schor examines the independent role of the graphics as well as their dialogue with the paintings, drawings and sculptures. (German edition available ISBN 3-7757- 0605-4) The artist: Barnett Newman (1905-1970). Studied art and philosophy in New York. In 1948, he launched the school of painting "Subjects of the Artist". Numerous solo and group exhibitions from 1950 onwards.
