Provocation and poetry are the pillars of Polish artist Piotr Uklanski's extraordinary oeuvre, to which this book is devoted.
This book is devoted to the work of the Polish artist Piotr Uklanski, born in 1968 in Warsaw. Uklanski incorporates a wide range of references from popular culture and visual art into his works, often delving into controversial subjects, as in Die Nazis, a spectacular series of film stills of famous stars from movies about the Third Reich. In 2002, Uklanski published Untitled (Gingerass) in an ad placed in Artforum showing the bare behind of Alison M. Gingeras, a curator at the Centre Pompidou in Paris. For his performance The Full Burn, Uklanski had a stuntman set on fire. The book presents a comprehensive survey of Uklanski's oeuvre, including his extensive reservoir of images, his series entitled Joy of Photography, documentary photos from his actions, and outdoor sculptures by the artist. Exhibition schedule: Kunsthalle Basel June 17 - August 22, 2004
