"My works are concerned with experience and the awareness of experience." Olafur Eliasson
The art of Olafur Eliasson shows us how space is always mediated by a series of strata-memory, surroundings, expectations, body, and movement. By using light, water, glass, and crystalline structures the artist creates situations that make the viewer aware of the interdependence between immediate perception, the natural, representation, and the artificial. The book, accompanying an exhibition at ARoS Aarhus Kunstmuseum, Denmark, and conceived in co-operation with the artist, contains visual presentations of seven major exhibitions by Eliasson, including Chaque matin je me sens different: Chaque soir je me sens le même (Musée d'art moderne de la Ville de Paris, 2002), The Blind Pavilion (The Danish Pavilion, 50th Venice Biennale, 2003), and The Weather Project (Tate Modern, London, 2003). The exhibitions are presented dynamically through photographs, architectural drawings, and sketches by the artist, allowing the reader not only to see how each exhibition forms an integral whole but also to experience how duration, temporality, and movement are inherent in the exhibitions, how space is in time. Eliasson's spatial explorations are theoretically framed by a number of essays by experts on the question of time-space-body. Exhibition schedule: ARoS Aarhus Kunstmuseum, October 8, 2004-January 16, 2005
