This illustrated publication presents highlights of Jenny Holzer's recent work in Germany - a series of outdoor Xenon light projections she presented for the 2004 Duisburger Akzente Festival - and features a selection of her writings (TRUISMS, INFLAMMATORY ESSAYS, SURVIVAL, and MOTHER AND CHILD) that were projected onto downtown buildings and at the former Thyssen steelworks.
For more than twenty-five years, Jenny Holzer has rivaled ignorance and violence with humor, kindness, and moral courage. She has presented her ideas, arguments, and sorrows in public places and international exhibitions including the Reichstag, the Venice Biennale, and the Guggenheim Museums in New York and Bilbao. Her medium is writing, and the public venue is an essential dimension of her work. Projections have become integral to her practice, and this illustrated publication presents a selection of images from her 2004 Xenon for Duisburg, created for the city's Duisburger Akzente Festival. Holzer's texts scrolled over the urban landscape and the blast furnaces of the former Thyssen steelworks.
