German artist Sabine Dehnel (*1971) is interested in lonely roads and far distances. For her, painting and photography are not in a competition to see which is the most potent, but instead they engage in a mutually beneficial dialogue. The transformational path leads from the snapshot to collage to painting to the “living picture,” a constructed, temporary installation, before finally reaching the c-print stage. Painting is thus subjected to a further exploration, returning to the medium from which it originally arose. Out of this transformed reconstruction, Dehnel then develops her serial installations, which are even further removed from the painting. Her cropped images of people, either in varying positions against unaltered backgrounds or as frozen figures against changing backgrounds, tell their own fascinating stories.Elsewhere presents several series which were created between 2002 and 2006, intensifying the symbiosis between painting and photography.Exhibition schedule: Kunstverein Ludwigshafen, November 17, 2006–January 7, 2007 · Columbus Art Foundation, Ravensburg, January 26–March 23, 2007 · Filipp Rosbach Galerie, Leipzig, September 16–November 17, 2007Sabine Dehnel (*1971 in Ludwigshafen) studied fine arts and philosophy at the Academy of Fine Arts at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz from 1993 to 1999; graduate studies from 1999 to 2000. 2000-2001 MFA program at the Otis College of Fine Arts and Design in Los Angeles.
