Contemporary art has found many ways to convey the range of emotions experienced between the acts of going and staying, from the beginning to the end of a journey, along the road and at the destination. The participants in this exhibition embrace the fundamental theme of walking, regarding it as a metaphor for the transitory and the fleeting, and often as a symbol for the passing of human existence. This notion consequently lends itself to intriguing images of social deformation, political violence, and utopian visions of change.Going Staying comprises around eighty installations, projects, videos, photos, and drawings by thirty-seven international artists from the sixties to the present, all of whom explore the concepts of movement and of places where movement comes to a halt. The exhibited works include objects and rooms, doors, beds, mobile living quarters, signs of arrival, of expectation, and of passage, all of which depict the fluctuating nature of both going and staying. Exhibition schedule: Kunstmuseum Bonn, November 28, 2007–February 17, 2008
