City and Structure is the first publication to assemble the photographs of metropolises and megacities by H. G. Esch (*1964 inNeuwied), an architectural photographer who is based in Germany but who works throughout the world. The images are testimony to the artist’s fascination with rapidly growing boomtowns, especially those in Asia and the United Arab Emirates, where Esch has carried out commissions for well-known German and international architect’s offices. While the first part of the book, "City," features breathtaking urban views, the second part, "Structure," focuses on the surface structures and façades of metropolitan architecture. Esch succeeds in capturing unusual perspectives of this urban phenomenon. His clear-sighted, unobtrusive lens records, in an intriguing way, the fact that despite all of their regional and cultural differences, modern megacities are involved in a process of assimilation. Exhibition schedule: International Architecture Forum AedesLand, Berlin, November 7,2008–January 11, 2009
