The Michael and Eleonore Stoffel Collection is one of the highest-caliber private collections in Germany. The couple began collecting in the seventies, assembling their collection with passion, great care, consistency, and a sense of each artist’s specific qualities. The collection provides an immediate view of important developments, especially in German and American art of the sixties to the nineties. Larger complexes of works by artists such as Marlene Dumas, Caroll Dunham, Jörg Immendorff, Mike Kelley, Martin Kippenberger, Per Kirkeby, Markus Lüpertz, David Salle, and Rosemarie Trockel unfold a multifaceted panorama of paintings and installations from the latter half of the twentieth century.The book’s introductory texts deal extensively with the history and profile of the collection, which has been in the possession of the Pinakothek der Moderne since 2007.
