| Films that intervene in time-related discourses and practices
In the five works featured in this publication, Pauline Boudry and Renate Lorenz combine the media of film or video with photography, installation, and text, while simultaneously incorporating materials from the historical archives of photography and film. They reflect on the interplay of sexuality, sexual perversions, and photography, as well as their relationship to colonial history of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Inspired by a kind of conceptual, queer art history, especially works by performance artist and filmmaker Jack Smith, the films by Boudry/Lorenz demonstrate their independence in terms of camerawork, performance, props, costumes, and sound, while using contemporary performers to unite different time periods: Temporal Drag.
