| Dynamic swaths of color—rational, yet charged with tension
While the body of work by painter Günter Fruhtrunk (1923–1982) stands in the tradition of abstract geometric art of the twentieth century, it occupies a very unique place internationally. The Munich-born artist became interested in Suprematism and Constructivism early on and pursued an artistic path that made the desire for personal expression completely secondary to the work itself. He was one of the stars at documenta IV in 1968, where his paintings composed of strips of color created a furor. This is the first publication in many years to provide insight into the wealth of Fruhtrunk’s oeuvre. Waiting to be discovered is an artist for whom the sensuous value of color as a carrier of meaning is closely linked to the abstract form. Exhibition schedule: Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein, Vaduz, May 25–September 2, 2012
