| Drawings and paintings by the Swiss artist
Valentin Hauri (*1954 in Baden) has been creating his paintings “alla prima,” meaning in a work process without corrections or overpainting, since 1994. Anything that does not stand up to the artist’s scrutiny after it has been completed is rejected and sorted out. Hauri frequently finds inspiration in Art Brut, whose authenticity fascinates him.It is not least due to these references that the meaning of the symbols in his paintings can be heftily debated. Art-historical strategies alone cannot explain these works; emotion and intuition are required. No Place but the One, with essays by Konrad Bitterli, Daniel Morgenthaler, and Markus Stegmann, assembles six series of paintings from the last decade and two groups of more recent drawings. Exhibition schedule: Museum Allerheiligen, Schaffhausen, November 18, 2012–January 27, 2013
