| "So, I’m actually a realistic man. I have to see everything." – Otto Dix
The exhibition catalogue Otto Dix. Alles muss ich sehen! (I Have to See Everything!), celebrating the artist’s 125th birthday, focuses on the thematic continuity of his oeuvre and sheds light on how his subjects thread through all stages of his career: nudes, portraits, religious themes, depictions of war, and cities and landscapes. In Dix's works, for which reality alone served as the standard measure, the themes of birth, death, desire, and suffering unite to form a multi-layered entity. The painter’s life was also subject to extreme situations, from the horrors of World War I, Dix’s defamation as a “degenerate artist” by the Nazis, to his life in both East and West Germany—two completely different worlds also in terms of art. Besides the works of art that have left their mark on our collective memory, the catalogue features many unknown artworks, which open up a new perspective on the artist himself. Exhibition: 02.12. 2016 – 17.04.2017, Zeppelin Museum
