Since completing her first Truisms in 1977, Jenny Holzer has worked on nine other major text complexes in which she deals with essential themes relating to the human condition: sexuality, birth, death, love, war, religion and politics. Visualised language is this American artist's preferred form of expression, and she literally transports her disturbing contents in electronic light tickers displayed in both public places and settings reserved for art. She also uses other "pictorial media" for her texts: posters, tee-shirts, caps and billboards in railway stations, airports and football stadiums. In Lustmord, offenders, victims and surviving family members talk about their experiences with violence and death in schockingly precise terms. Jenny Holzer developed photo material for the catalogue in which to incorporate all of her Lustmord texts, which she transposed into moving (in both senses of the word) sequences of words and images. These sequences can be installed from a CD-ROM as screen savers on home computer systems. The artist: Jenny Holzer, born 1950 in Gallipolis, Ohio; studied in New York and Ohio; exhibited at documenta 7 and 8 and at the 1990 Venice Biennale; lives and works in New York.
