artintact is a combination book and CD-ROM in which the ZKM (Zentrum für Kunst und Medientechnologie Karlsruhe) presents pioneering works of interactive media art. Invited to appear in the fourth edition of this series were artists who have dealt with a wide variety of audio-visual media in their works for many years but have rarely employed the computer as an artistic resource up to now. Dieter Kiessling (Düsseldorf) and the duo Marina Grzinic/Aina Smid (Ljubljana) were are past recipients of the support grants awarded with the "Deutscher Videokunstpreis". Anja Wiese (Düsseldorf), who studied under Nam June Paik and Günther Uecker and later at the Medienhochschule in Cologne, has earned acclaim primarily for her sound, light and space installations. The artintact book accompanying the CD-ROM contains essays by media theorists and authors on the works presented as well as detailed works indexes and biographical information on the artists. In his introductory essay, John G. Hanhardt, Curator at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, discusses the profound changes that have taken place in art within the context of electronic media, particularly with respect to issues of presentation, publication and critical reception.
