| Techno in a Global Context
As a worldwide phenomenon, techno has not only influenced music history, but also contemporary culture. Its impulses into art, philosophy, pop culture, media consumption and technologies are omnipresent. Based on text and image contributions, the book opens a portal into the usually guarded world of techno. It traces the cultural-historical dimension and the artistic exploration of electronic sound experiences. The catalogue, published on the occasion of a worldwide exhibition tour by the Goethe-Institut, reflects on the history of techno and club culture as well as the diverse practices of clubbing. Experiences of space, sign systems, and the club as a place where questions of identity and gender are renegotiated reveal the enormous breadth of the topic. A recommendation not only for friends of electronic dance music.

With contributions by artists such as Tony Cokes, Zuzanna Czebatul, Aleksandra Domanović, Abdul Qadim Haqq, Ryōji Ikeda, Maryam Jafri, M+M, Henrike Naumann & Bastian Hagedorn, Carsten Nicolai, The Otolith Group, Vinca Petersen, Daniel Pflumm, Sarah Schönfeld, Jeremy Shaw, Dominique White, Tobias Zielony as well as the film directors Jacqueline Caux, Romuald Karmakar and the musicians DeForrest Brown, Jr., Chicks on Speed, Rangoato Hlasane, Robert Lippok and Mamba Negra.

The book is published as part of the eponymous Goethe-Institut's touring exhibition, curated by Mathilde Weh, Justin Hoffmann, and Creamcake.
